Interview with Ryan, Ron, Sandra, Jose, Rob and Andre
JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't. Ryan: no most of them kept to them selves and others
were friendly to talk to Ron: some inmates were rude and bossy it was scary so
i didnt hesitate to resist them they were
bigger/stronger than me others tried to help me
since they knew i had serious medical problems Sandra: no, because i new a few of them in jail. Jose: yes alot of them was very corruptive and very
racial they even tried to boss around others Rob: yes i did these inmates were with gangs and
others were in for violent crimes Andre: no inmates was really no so bad i was around
less offensive inmates
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates? Ryan: i had to be careful what i say around them much
of them had to do with gangs Ron: i had to stay clear from others that wanted to
start fights /get violent in other ways i just
stayed to myself kept quiet not get involved in
the problems Sandra: did not have any fights. Jose: i had to keep to myself dont talk to any of the
mean ones i mostly stayed in the cell reading and
writing there was too many violence negativity
going on in there Rob: not to talk to them by staying to my self Andre: i just sat around wait until i was ready to be
released kept to myself
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change? Ryan: no they put you where ever they want you to be at Ron: no the officers put you in any cell they wanted
you in you couldnt ask to be in with the person
you know to feel comfortable and not be afraid Sandra: no, they put me in a cell with two others. that
only held two people. Jose: yes it depends on what corrections officer was
there for the shift and if he was a good person
about it Rob: no the correction officer was very rude and nasty
to me they should'nt had me in with violent
crimanals in the first place Andre: no the guards put you where ever there is room
available in a cell
